Work-In-Progress: Punderneath It All

Seattle Documentary Association (SeaDoc) hosts Work-in-Progress screenings on zoom during COVID-19. Open to the public with a primary audience of fellow documentary filmmakers, these moderated screenings foster a space for critical feedback and constructive dialogue.

At the intersection of standup comedy, improv, and trivia lies a little-known cultural phenomenon: pun competitions. Join SeaDoc for our next Work-in-Progress screening featuring the documentary Punderneath It All directed by Abby Hagan.

The screening will take place virtually on zoom Wednesday, March 30 from 6:30 - 9:30 pm.

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.

More about Punderneath It All

Punderneath It All is a feature-length documentary that documents pun competitions across the nation, using this medium as a way to further explore puns in pop culture and American society.

Exploring the “pun scenes” in respective US cities, this film follows multiple individuals in their quests to become regional and national pun champions. Exploring such themes as linguistics, the ethics of controversial comedy, equity and inclusion in the pun scene, and the importance of community, the film ultimately centers around the idea of laughter as a means for the human spirit to triumph over hardship.

Laughter is medicine, especially in our current societal and political climate. Pun competitions are a wholesome, unique, and welcoming environment to help heal some of our collective daily trauma. Buckle in for the most pun ride of your life.
