Jessey Dearing

Jessey Dearing is a Seattle-based cinematographer, director of photography and film editor. He currently works as a video producer and editor at Partners In Health, a global health and social justice organization that aims to provide high-quality health care to those who need it most. He is currently in post-production on a feature length documentary about power soccer

He has contributed to several documentary films including TransMilitary, Five Years North, and Since I Been Down. Previously, he has worked as documentary filmmaker for French media company, Brut., and Vulcan Productions. As an independent filmmaker he regularly contributes to projects and stories for The New York Times and Vice News Tonight, and was a director of photography for National Geographic’s relaunched flagship series “Explorer.” His work has been published by The Wall Street Journal, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, Washington Post, Univision and NPR, among others. He also collaborates with commercial clients such as Amazon and Starbucks to bring a documentary style to their storytelling. He has experience reporting around the globe, filming and producing projects in Kenya, Sierra Leone, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico and all over the United States, and specializes in character-driven, intimate storytelling that illuminates broader news stories and issues.

He graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in photojournalism. He also holds an associate’s degree in film photography from Randolph Community College.
